Who We Are

In 1968 Lester and Faye Downey needed to solve a problem. Lester was a local home builder and it seemed that flooring and carpet was always an issue on the houses he built. Faye encouraged Lester to start a carpet store that quickly turned into Downey Carpets and Furniture. Over the years many changes have taken place including no more carpet and flooring, which in turn has created the premier furniture store in the Gorge.

In the early eighties Ron and Carol Vergeer took the store over from Carol's parents. After 40  plus years they decided it was time to hand off to the next generation. Bob and Debbie Wickwire acquired the store during the summer of 2022 from Debbie's folks.

Between Bob and Debbie, they have six kids and ten plus grandkids so the liklihood of keeping it in the family is good.

Downey Furniture and Design is all about family so even if we are not related, stop in and join the family.
